After a little blogging break due to a death in the family, I am back to blogging and sharing our lovely day out in Edinburgh and our delicious trip to Prezzo. After a tough couple of weeks, it was important for James, Ailsa and me to have a family day out, where we could have a little fun and just enjoy each others company. We decided it was a good time to head out to Scotland’s capital Edinburgh, a massive plus for us moving back to Scotland as it’s only 40 minutes on the train.
After getting off the train at Waverly Station, we headed into Princes Street Gardens straight across the road. We had lovely weather and some stunning views of the Castle. Ailsa got to run around and let off plenty of steam which is what we need before going out to eat at the moment. There is nothing worse than your child wanting to run around a restaurant is there? After a mooch around the shops we were starting to get a bit hangry and so we headed to Prezzo on North Bridge for an absolute feast.
We had a reservation but we got there a little early and the staff were so lovely and sat us straight away. We had a window seat so we could watch the world go by, I am such a people watcher so this was just ideal for me. Picking what we would eat is so difficult, Prezzo have such a great and varied menu, but after being asked to try the new La Famiglia dish by Brit Mums and Prezzo, ordering was so much easier as all we had to do was pick 1 pasta dish out of a choice of 4 (Penne Arrabiata, Spaghetti Bolognese, Spaghetti Carbonara or Penne Alla Rusticana). La Famiglia is a sharing dish which Prezzo advises could serve up to 4 people, I think you could probably get 6 portions with extra sides to make a great meal. We decided to go with the Penne Alla Rusticana, which is penne pasta served with Chicken and Pancetta in a creamy tomato sauce, some garlic bread on the side and of course our drinks Diet Coke for me and Scotland’s favourite Irn Bru for James.
With only ordering one dish to share as a family, there was no worry about Ailsa wasting a kids meal, she can be quite selective as to how much she eats at times and I always begrudge paying for a separate meal that she may not eat. With La Famiglia we didn’t need to worry, we could eat as a family and Ailsa could eat as much or as little as she liked along with James and me. The dish was delicious, I have always loved Prezzo for their great quality meals and our La Famiglia dish was definitely to their usual high standard. They brought over our massive bowl of pasta with a serving spoon and tongs so we could dish it out ourselves. Ailsa thoroughly enjoyed getting stuck into it, she tends to use her hands for picking up pasta as she struggles with her fork at times but it was so great to see her shovelling her food into her mouth and enjoying it as a family.
For dessert, we ordered some yummy ice cream. Who can resist ice cream after a meal, even though I was pretty full I still managed to eat most of mine! Ailsa thoroughly enjoyed her’s too as you can see in the photo below. The Whole meal was just lovely and we really couldn’t fault the staff at Prezzo Edinburgh North Bridge. I can’t wait to go back and try one of the other La Famiglia dishes, I’m thinking Spag Bol next time. Thank you so much Prezzo and Brit Mums for inviting us along to try out this delicious dish! You brought some sparkle back to our family at a much needed time.
